LIMESTONE CARYATIDS (PAIR)
This extraordinary pair of ‘male Caryatids’ are referred to as Atlas or Atlantes. The limestone carvings were collected by Luciano Tempo early in his Venetian life, and once graced the living room of his Carmel residence in California.
This particular depiction of Atlas has been conflated with the image of Hercules, who wears the skin of the slain Nemaean lion.
